District Fine Arts leader receives national award
Shawn Chastain, Executive Coordinator of Fine Arts for Wichita Public Schools, has been selected as the 2024 Outstanding Administrator by the Organization of American Kodaly Educators.

Six WPS schools recommended for closure to help close budget gap
The Wichita Board of Education heard a recommendation to close six schools at the end of the school year in Phase 2 budget reductions during its February 12, 2024 meeting. The recommendation is pending final BOE approval on March 4.

The Board of Education approved the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school year calendars during its February 12, 2024 meeting.

BOE hears an update on the 24-25 budget development
Board of Education members heard an update to the WPS budget development for the 24-25 fiscal year and beyond during their January 22 meeting. Our reductions for next year’s budget are anticipated to be $42 million.

Project Grad will have a Pizza deal this Thursday for $5. You get 2 slices of Pizza, a drink, and a cookie all for $5.
Educators Rising is having a St. Patrick’s Day bake sale tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19th during lunch in front of Pupil Services. One 12-ounce Shamrock shake is $4, one chocolate chip cookie is $2, and one Shamrock sugar cookie is $2.
Members of the Northwest Powerlifting team competed at the Conway Springs Powerlifting Meet on March 9th. Juaquin Burke finished in 2nd place with 22 points in the 242-pound division. Nathan (Junior) Davis finished in 6th place in the power division.
Jaxon Byers finished in 9th place in 165-pound division. Diego Gutierrez finished in 10th place in 198-pound division.
This week, NHS is collecting books for our Book Drive. If you have any school-appropriate books that you no longer want, please bring them to school and drop them off in the Book Bin in front of pupil services, the library, or Ms. Buhler’s room B21. These books will be placed in our Little Free Library soon to be built right here on the Northwest campus.
Are you an outstanding student? Join the National Honors Society! Applications are now open for the next class of academic leaders here in Northwest. Get an application from Ms. Buhler in B21. Applications are due by May 3rd.
National Honors Society Members: REMINDER--all 30 community service hours for this year are due by April 5th at the end of the school day. Tracking forms are available on Google Classroom and in B21. Late hours will affect your membership status!
