WPS staff receive more than $113,000 in grants
Thirty teachers and school-based staff members across the district were recently surprised with the announcement that they received Education EDGE and Koch classroom grants.

Three WPS students named National Merit semi-finalists
The National Merit Scholarship Program has named three WPS students as semifinalists: Ethan Wessley and Shlok Prabhu from East High School and John Robertson from Northwest High School.

Update on Strategic Plan Goal 1 – Increase the Graduation Rate
The BOE heard an update on Goal 1 of the Strategic Plan – increase the graduation rate. The presentation shared that WPS has exceeded its goal of having an 80% graduation rate, with 80.4% seniors graduating in 2022.

The BOE heard an update on Goal 3 of the Strategic Plan – increase certifications and college credit. The update included the progress of Graduation +, which is a goal of students earning a high school diploma, plus one or more Market Value Asset.

BOE approves revised Mission, Vision and Shared Beliefs as WPS works towards new strategic plan
The Board of Education adopted new mission and shared beliefs statements during their August 28, 2023 meeting. These will drive development of the major goals for the 2024-29 strategic plan.

Arts in Education Week to feature open house at Wichita Art Museum
September 10-16 is National Arts in Education Week and, to celebrate, the district's Fine Arts department will host a celebration at the Wichita Art Museum, Saturday, Sept. 16.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Visits Wichita Public Schools
Cindy Marten, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education, visits Wichita on the first leg of her Back to School 2023 Raise the Bar Bus Tour, stopping at the Future Ready Manufacturing Center and Jackson Elementary School.

Good morning today is Thursday, September 21st.
Today’s weather is partly cloudy at 70 with a high of 86 and a low of 66.
Lunch today is a Corn Dog or a Chicken Thigh with a Dinner Roll. Breakfast tomorrow is an Egg and cheese Bagel.
Homecoming is quickly approaching! Our Homecoming game against South is on October 6 and our Homecoming dance will be on October 7th from 8-11 pm.
Homecoming Royalty nominations open tomorrow, so keep your eyes out for posters with a QR code and nominate a classmate who best represents our values of pride, respect, and excellence.
Open Gym for anyone interested in playing boys basketball is tonight from 6:00 to 7:00 in the main gym.
Young Life is hosting its first Bible Study meeting on Tuesday, September 26th. All are invited to come grab some pizza and study the Bible with us! You will need to stop by Ms. Buhler’s room B21 to grab a pass to come during lunch. Hope to see you there!
See You at the Pole is a student-organized event for anyone who is interested in coming together and praying for our school. We will be meeting at the flagpole on September 27th at 7 a.m. before school. For more details, see Ms. Buhler in B21.
Today Project Grad during lunch will sell their Meal Deal for $5. 2 Pizza slices, a cookie, and a drink for $5.
National Art Honor Society will have our next meeting during 9th hour this Monday, September 25th in Mrs. Overholt’s room, F4. If you still have not turned in your application or paid your dues to Ms. Leitzke in the office, please do so ASAP and bring your receipt to the meeting!
Future’s Fair has 19 spots available and the deadline for turning in permission slips is September 29. Hurry and get your permission slips turned in at the Counseling office.
