Golf Tournament and Fund Raiser
The East High School Class of 1973 will be hosting a fund-raising 4 man scramble golf tournament on Thursday October 5 at 8 am for the newly established East High School endowment fund. East High has never had an endowment fund for the students before, and members of the class of ’73 worked together and established the endowment fund late in 2022, in time for the 100 years anniversary of the East High School building being built in 1923. It is a legal 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. Find out how you can be a sponsor for the tournament or participate as a player!

PRESS RELEASE
The landmark Wichita High School East tower at Douglas and Grove turns 100 this October. We invite all alumni and friends of Wichita High School East to celebrate Wichita’s original high school and 100 Years of the Tower, Oct. 6-7.
Festivities kick off with the Wichita High School East fall homecoming football game on the Wichita High School East football field, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m., followed by an alumni tailgate party.
A 100 Year Celebration Parade will be held, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m., on Douglas Street from Hydraulic to Grove, followed by a Block Party on the Wichita High School East front lawn. Food trucks, guest speakers, school tours, music, and more will be available for the entire family.
Alumni and community members are invited to walk the halls of Wichita High School East to see flags for 100 notable alumni and to learn 100 interesting facts.
Wichita High School opened its doors at the corner of Douglas and Grove, Oct. 8, 1923, and was known as the million-dollar high school. In 1928, Wichita High School was renamed Wichita High School East after the addition of Wichita North.
“We are proud of Wichita High School East’s place in the history of our community,” Principal Sara Richardson said. “This important milestone allows us to reflect on our past and honor the thousands of students and staff members who have walked the halls and impacted our community, and to showcase our growth and many achievements, while preparing for the future and the continued success of Wichita High School East.”
Events celebrating Wichita High School East’s 100 Years will be ongoing throughout the 2023-2024 school year. Make sure to check the school website, usd259.org/East, for additional information.
We hope to celebrate with you on Oct. 6-7.

Class of 1960 Virtual Reunion Creates New Connections
When the Class of 1960’s 60th Reunion was cancelled in 2020, we began publishing a Virtual Reunion website at https://wichitaeastclassof1960.com. This website contains 430 stories written by and about our classmates as well as more than 1000 photos. New content is published several times each week. Stories range from memories of East High to stories classmates write about their lives and times. As of today, the website has had 3,878 visitors who viewed 47,637 items.
In January 2020, we began holding monthly Zoom sessions. A total of 28 classmates have participated so far. They Zoomed in from all parts of the U.S., including, in one case, a hospital room in Arizona. Participants have been a diverse group who did not necessarily know each other in high school.
Besides these two activities, we maintain communications with class members through monthly email newsletters to 150 classmates who use email, semi-annual Messengers that contain stories from the website and are mailed to 442 classmates for whom we have functioning USPS addresses, and occasional postcards.
The Virtual Reunion team of Marilyn Bellert, Diane Zinn, and Fred Elder continue to enjoy working on the 1960 Virtual Reunion projects. Many of our classmates observe that they have gotten to know more people and learned more about them from reading the website than would be possible at weekend reunion activities.

Carillon Bells
Thanks to a generous donation from the Class of 1954, the East High tower is once again a true bell tower, playing the alma mater ("The Blue and White") and the fight song ("Stand Up and Cheer") daily.
During the school year, the alma mater plays Monday through Friday at 7:50 AM and the fight song plays Monday through Friday at 3:15 PM. In addition, the Westminster chimes play daily at 6:00 PM and at noon on Saturdays and Sundays.
Stop by East and listen, or download the MP3s below! The lyrics to both songs are also below.
The Blue and the White (Alma mater)
We hail the glory of East High, her honor shining bright.
In Wichita we proudly raise her banner, blue and white.
We stand before the whole wide world, Blue Aces soaring in the sky,
And ever will our voices raise in praise of old East High.
Play "The Blue and the White" (To download, right-click and choose "Save Target As...")
Stand Up and Cheer (Fight song)
Stand up and cheer
And shout it out for good ole East High
For today we raise the
Blue and White above all others.
We are the Aces always fighting
And we are sure to win tonight.
Stand up and cheer
We’re gonna win.
So come on East High
Fight, fight, fight.
