Hi everyone.

Welcome to Lawrence PE.  We are looking forward to a great year in our classroom of teaching skills and lifetime fitness!  "We Love Learning at Lawrence".

A little about myself I have been teaching at Lawrence since 2004.  My undergrad was from Wichita State University and  I also have two masters degrees one in education and another in school leadership, both from Baker University.  I was the recipent of the highest KAHPERD Award "The Wayne Osness award 2018, Kansas Elementary Teacher of the year 2019 and SHAPE Central District Teacher of the Year 2020.

 I am 56 yrs young and have been married for the past 20 years to my lovely wife Trudy.  We have a daugther Elizabeth that is 29 yr of age and have two grandsons Eli (6yr) and Slade (1yr).  Heading to Alaska next summer and look forward to sharing with students about the adventure.

My hobbies include: Woodworking, gardening, bicyling, kayaking, guitar and traveling to National Parks.

I have been a physical education teacher in the Wichita Public School District since 2013. Prior to that I played basketball at and graduated from Bethel College. It was my freshman year of high school that I realized I wanted to teach P.E. and have enjoyed the journey to getting my Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education. I love playing all types of sports, lifting weights, going to the movies, and hiking. My wife and I have a daughter now, named Kensi Marie Bumgarner, who just turned 1 on October 1st. 

I am beyond excited for this new school year and all the fun and growth that will occur within our physcial education program. It's great to be back in the gym! Come ready to sweat, have fun, and learn new things about health and overall fitness!!
