Mrs. Katy Martin

Nurse

Nurse Martin’s role changes moment by moment depending on what is needed at that specific time. She certainly assesses students who are ill or injured as they come in, but the responsibilities reach far beyond that. Nurse Martin reviews health information parents/guardians provide to the school, then provides education to teachers and staff so that students’ healthcare needs are always being supported. Vision and hearing screenings and referrals are done yearly. She collaborates with community partners to organize and complete dental screenings. Immunization management is monitored. Nurse Martin completes assessments for all special education students and attends those meetings. Along with other staff members, she provides insight and recommendations on the Section 504 Team. She constantly reviews our policies and procedures to ensure that best practices are being followed. Her biggest goal as a school nurse is to make sure everyone feels safe and supported. She became a nurse to become knowledgeable and help advocate for those who aren’t even sure what help they need. Nurse Martin love being a resource for our students, their families, and her coworkers. She loves music and has played piano, guitar, and other instruments over the years. She also enjoys cooking and baking. Her long-term goal is to run a mobile bakery. She and her husband recently purchased a vintage VW bus and are working to get it running and ready for business! Nurse Martin is a member of the Kansas School Nurse Organization (KSNO), National Association of School Nurses (NASN), and a Nationally Certified School Nurse.
