Community Based Instruction Documents to Submit

  • The following information is in regards to the facilitation and coordination of Community Based Instruction (CBI) at all building levels, elementary and secondary.  The documents referenced below are attached in this email in addition the list of Campus Support Contacts.  Please share this information with the Paraeducators who assist with the implementation of CBI.

On August 6, 2019, at our District Categorical In-service, I shared some brief expectations in regards to CBI.  Our Team will be spending this school year collecting data and establishing baselines on a variety of things that directly impact students served in Categorical Programs, specifically related to the implementation of Community Based Instruction.

In regards to the implementation of CBI for the 2019-2020 school year:

    • Elementary School Level – CBI only conducted within the school building.  No CBI outside of the school building.  Any questions regarding this, contact your Campus Support.
    • Middle School Level – CBI conducted within the school building and some outside of the school building.  Before adding additional CBI sites outside of the school building, contact your Campus Support.  Any questions regarding this, contact your Campus Support.
    • High School Level – CBI conducted within and outside of the school building.  Any questions regarding this, contact your Campus Support.

Due to changes in responsibilities of Paraeducators from year to year, I am unable to provide this information directly to Paraeducators who are supporting CBI.  I am relying on Special Education Teachers to share this information with the Paraeducators that they supervise for the implementation of CBI.

We have recently been in contact with our Division of Risk Management regarding the implementation of CBI practices within our school district.  Through that process, we have identified training documents, driver verification, insurance coverages, and driver’s license validity information that needs to be collected for the purpose of being compliant with School Board Polices.
