Steve Smith

I have been teaching in Wichita Public Schools since 1997. The first fifteen years were in elementary (everything from 2nd through 5th grades). The next five years were teaching middle school math. I became a middle school technology teacher in 2017 and currently teach Explorations in Technology 1 for 6th grade, Explorations in Technology 2 for 7th grade, and Intro to Engineering for 8th grade. I am also the Allison Robotics Team coach. Frederick Douglass said, "Without struggle there is no progress." These are great words to remember as we work together to learn and grow.

Fun fact: I worked really hard to reach the height of six feet. While I got close, I never quite made it. These things happen. #dashedhopes

Jennifer Lee

Prior to teaching art, I was a freelance graphic designer. I have designed local and international magazines, a line of house paint, painted murals, and owned a local newspaper. I have been fortunate enough to have lived in England and I love to travel. My current passion is fossil hunting – I found a trilobite fossil in my driveway!

In 2020, I  was honored to be the art teacher of the only middle school student in the state of Kansas to be recognized for their artwork at the national level of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

I believe that art should be inclusive and not exclusive – everyone is an artist in some way!

My favorite things are lemon cake, kindness, frosted sugar cookies, kindness, Hershey’s chocolate, finding a penny, and kindness!

Jim Mareda

Hi My Name is Mr. Mareda - pronounced Marda. My passion is teaching music. I currently play in the orchestra for Central Community Church and any other gigs that might come about. I have a couple hobbies: I golf and I set up and shoot commercial fireworks shows. In college I played on a golf scholarship for four years and won the KCAC Championship when I was a junior. I also just was recognized as being this year's recipient to Kansas Bandmasters Association for Outstanding Contribution to Music. I am married to my lovely wife, Judy, who retired from teaching choral music in USD 259 a couple of years ago.

Stephanie Zoeller

I am Mrs. Zoeller, the band teacher. I have been teaching band since 2003, and I love it! When I am not teaching band, I am enjoying time with my family. I married my high school sweetheart and he works for Optometric Billing Solutions. My daughter goes to Northwest High School and has a passion for animals, science, and music! She is very involved with Science Olympiad, takes horse lessons at Wichita Riding Academy, competes on the swim team Harvest Ducks, and is very involved in Girl Scouts, in which I am one of her Girl Scout leaders. My son goes to Wilbur Middle School and loves playing soccer, basketball, and video games. Both of my children are also musical; my daughter takes guitar and singing lessons and sings in the choir at Northwest and my son takes percussion lessons and plays in the band at Wilbur.

I also have a strong faith and attend West Height United Methodist Church. When we are not at Wichita Riding Academy, the soccer fields, a scouting event, practicing music, or at church, then we are probably at home watching sports. We love the Shockers, Dallas Cowboys, KC Chiefs, KC Royals, Sporting KC, and sports in general.

Frances Oare

Hi there! I'm Mrs. Oare and I’ve been teaching orchestra since 1987. In my teaching career, I have taught in Hawaii, Washington, Michigan, Ohio, and Kansas. I am passionate about teaching and received my National Board Certification in 2019. We are a musical family; my husband teaches music education courses at WSU and I have two grown children who both play violin. My son, Jacob, is a pilot in the Air Force; he is stationed at Fort Riley in Manhattan, Kansas. My daughter, Rebecca, is in childcare and works in the CDC at East High for the YMCA. Last fall, we welcomed Vanna to our family; she is a junior in high school, plays bass, and wants to be a music teacher.

When I am not teaching, I like to spend time with my family, figure skating, or baking. Playing music has allowed me to travel all over the world; I performed at the opening ceremonies for the 1984 Olympics and spent a summer playing on the streets of Disney World!

Hi, I'm Ms. Perkins! This is my first year teaching Physical Education. PE was always my favorite class when I was in school, and now, I am excited I get to be in PE all day, everyday! Golf is a huge passion of mine; I spent four years playing golf at Fort Hays. When I am not at work or golfing, I enjoy going to the lake with my family and spending time with my dog Milli. I have the coolest lake dog! She has been tubing, skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, and can even kneeboard by herself.

Lori Cook

Hello, All!

I started my teaching career in 1997 and spent eleven years teaching math: 6th, 7th, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra. I have been at Allison since 2007, and teaching technology since 2009. I am currently teaching Gaming Concepts. I love having the opportunity to encourage and guide you through "exploring" all that technology has to offer and I love learning new things.

My husband is a retired third grade teacher in Andover, and I have three kids: Jack, Will, and Rose. I love to travel, spend time outside, and read.
