• First closure scare

In the 1980’s, all small schools in Wichita were being scrutinized, for possible closure or to combine programs with other schools in order to save money.  In 1991-92, Woodland was given the choice: be combined with Riverside, in which Woodland would have K-2 and Riverside would have 3-5, or become a magnet school.  So, Woodland staff and parents, along with the B.O.E., chose to turn Woodland into a magnet school.  In 1992-93, we officially became “Woodland Health and Wellness Magnet School.”  At this point, Principal Ken Jantz and our full time P.E. teacher, Dr. Todd Russell, were chosen to lead our staff and families through this transition period.
