LUNCH TIME mentoring can include homework help if you request it. Students who are matched with a Mentor will meet with them once a week during lunch & recess. Students should treat this as an appointment to be kept! When you return the REQUEST FORM, the student is placed on a waiting list until they can be matched with a specific mentor.

LUNCH GROUPS: Most lunch groups meet weekly for one semester, or bi-weekly throughout the school year. For the 2021-22 school year, we expect to have:

TRIO TALENT SEARCH -  facilitated by Ms. Stephanie Haynes. TRIO meets twice a month. "Talent Search" is looking for students who would be first generation college graduates and who meet other requirements of the Federal grant. TRIO is a program students can be part of through high school, and there are many benefits to help them prepare for college, including a summer program and college visits (in and out of state) in 8th grade and high school. Students in AVID will receive TRIO information in their AVID class.

BOYS 2 MEN and GIRL EMPOWERMENT - These groups meet for 8-10 weeks during lunch & recess. Discussion and fun activities teach life skills relating to school. Facilitated by staff from Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas, as part of a Federal grant.

AFTER-SCHOOL Homework Help meets Mon, Tues & Thurs from 2:20-4:10. Students need to sign up for both Mrs. Hawks program AND After-school REC (which is a different program, but an umbrella program which provides a snack & back up supervision to Mrs. Hawks program). AS Homework Help is a "come when you need to" program. Some students come regularly to complete school work then go to REC. Some come regularly on specific days, some attend just when they need help with school work, or want a quiet place to work.
