• Apply for an Open Seat in Wichita Public Schools

Wichita Public Schools welcomes applications from new out-of-district students for open seats at all grade levels from kindergarten through 12th for the 2024-25 school year. (Students currently enrolled from out of district do not need to reapply. Students already attending a WPS location based on home address should not apply through this process; instead, they should use a special transfer request.) Applications are available on our website from June 1-30, 2024, and accepted students will be notified by July 15 to begin the enrollment process. All capacities are determined using the procedures set forth in BOE Policy 5506.

Schools with an asterisk (*) at the end of the name do not have capacity for out-of-district enrollment because they meet one of the below criteria:

    • Magnet schools: filled through the magnet lottery process (applications are accepted annually October through January (high school and middle school) or February (elementary school)
    • Welcoming schools: welcoming current WPS students as part of our Transform24 plan
    • Special programs or alternative schools: have additional eligibility criteria for students with special needs
    • Virtual school

    Application programs:
any programs that require an application for a program within a school (i.e., East High’s International Baccalaureate, Northwest’s Early College Academy) will continue to follow program application schedules. Open seats at the host schools do not apply to these special programs.

Families who live within the WPS geographic boundaries and have interest in attending a school different than their neighborhood school should use the special transfer process or apply through the magnet lottery.
