Welcome

Welcome to Special Transportation Services

  • The Wichita Public Schools provides special education transportation for students that have such a need listed as a related service in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Our department works with schools and families to keep students safe and help them develop independence during their bus ride.    Stops are not required to be curb to curb and drivers will not wait more than one (1) minute for a student to load the bus.

We support students with many specialized needs including safety vests, car seats, wheelchairs, and medical equipment. The use of these will have to be specifically noted in your student’s IEP.  Please notify your child’s school and our department as soon as possible whenever changes occur.

If you are working with your student to develop independence below are some questions to consider:

    • Would he/she benefit walking to a corner stop with their peers to ride a regular education bus?
    • Would walking to the nearest corner and staying on a special education bus for structure be beneficial?

Our primary goal in to ensure that every child in our district has a SUCCESSFUL BUS RIDE!
