West High Academies: Health and Human Service Academy
The Health Science Technology/Early Child Education Academy is a secondary career education program for students who have a desire and interest to explore and pursue a career in the healthcare sciences, mental health, or early child education. The academy will provide students with opportunities to explore a variety of careers in these areas by shadowing and internship experiences. Certification in CPR/First Aid is provided, as well as the option to obtain the Certified Nurse Assistant and Certified Medicine Assistant licenses. Dual-credit courses in cooperation with WSU are also available.
The Health Science and Early Childhood Education Academy consists of four individual strands. These strands are designed to further students' education in their career choices. The following are the three strands and careers that are focused on in that strand.
Health Science -Nurse/ CNA, Doctor, Pharmacist, Dentist, Dental Hygienist, Veterinary Science, Physical Therapy/ Sports Medicine, Forensics/ CSI, Laboratory Technologist
Early Childhood Education - Early Childhood Educator/ Director, Teacher- Preschool, Kindergarten, Primary Grades, Family Consumer Science Teacher, Family Relations Counselor, Consumer Protection Specialist
Mental Health Science -Psychiatrist/ Psychologist/ Counselor, Social Worker
