• Riverside helps us prepare step-by-step for leading in life.

  • As the oldest open school in Wichita Riverside has a long history. That history starts in 1889 when a one-room frame building was built somewhere "between the rivers." The school moved to its current location in 1910. At that time the school was a four room brick building with 32 students. Over the years, enrollment grew, and by 1930 over 500 children attended Riverside. In the late 1980's, after experiencing a steady decline in enrollment, a parent group petitioned the school board to rebrand Riverside as a magnet school. The magnet theme of cultural arts and history was chosen due to the school's proximity to Wichita's museums. After many successful years, the magnet theme changed to leadership. In the 21st century, the building has been updated twice due to bond issues. A new gym, which also serves as a safe room, along with other upgrades were completed and dedicated in 2005. A new library and office area opened in 2015.
