Notice is hereby given pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 25-2022, that effective April 6, 2026, an appointment process was approved for a vacancy in the membership of the Board of Education of Unified School District No. 259, Sedgwick County, State of Kansas, for the At-Large position. Such vacancy will be filled by appointment of the Board of Education not sooner than 15 days following publication of this notice, and the appointee will serve until the expiration of the current term on December 31, 2027. The person to be appointed must be at least 18 years of age, reside within the boundaries of Wichita Public Schools, and be registered to vote in Sedgwick County, Kansas.
Interested persons are required to submit a completed application form that includes three (3) letters of reference. The application form is available at HERE or can be requested by emailing the Clerk of the Board at lhoyt@usd259.net. The completed application form and three (3) letters of reference must be received via postal mail or hand-delivery to the Clerk of the Board, 903 S. Edgemoor, Wichita, Kansas, 67218, no later than Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 12 noon. Emailed documents will not be accepted. A background check will be conducted on all applicants.
Applicants need to be available for interviews and other purposes at a BOE Meeting scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Alvin E. Morris Administrative Center, 903 S. Edgemoor, Wichita, Kansas, 67218.

The Clerk of the Board will share the list of qualified applicants with the Board of Education. The list of qualified applicants will be posted on the district’s website along with the date, time, and location for the interviews (May 15 at 10:00AM), which will be a Board meeting and open to the public. The Clerk of the Board will call and/or send an email to all applicants. |

Appointee will go to the Sedgwick County Election Office and take the official oath of office. New Board member will then bring the signed/attested Oath of Office to the Clerk of the Board’s office at the Alvin E. Morris Administrative Center. |

The Clerk of the Board will schedule BOE orientation with the newly appointed board member. |
