P0851 Stakeholder Input

It is the policy of the Board of Education that decisions, actions, and other matters affecting district stakeholders should be developed and adopted with due regard for the input of affected stakeholders.  The Board recognizes its teachers and other staff as critical groups whose expertise, experience, and day-to-day interaction with students provide valuable insights. Seeking and considering teacher input is particularly important when Board action may substantially affect instructional practices, working conditions, or the delivery of educational services. 

Administrative Implementation Procedures:

While not exhaustive, the Board recognizes that teacher, staff, and other stakeholder input may be especially appropriate in connection with the implementation of the following:

• 1407 Commercial Advertising
• 1412 Donations – Computer Technology, Equipment, Materials & Supplies
• 2200 Parent and Community Support Network  
• 2212 Parent Teacher Groups
• 3422 School Related Organizational Funds
• 6020 Textbook Adoption Procedures 
• 6040 Selection of Instructional Materials, Development of Catalogs 
• 6105 Experimental Instructional Materials 
• 6434 General Criteria for Selection and Use of Electronic Media 
• 6725 Mathematics Education 
• 6730 Social Studies Education 
• 7302 Procedures for Initiating Changes in Student Transportation 

Stakeholder input may be gathered through a variety of methods, depending on relevant circumstances. Examples of appropriate feedback mechanisms may include:

• Listening sessions or community forums
• Surveys or written feedback instruments
• Advisory committees or standing committees
• Task forces or short-term workgroups
• Site-based councils or building-level meetings
• Engagement through recognized employee organizations or representative groups

The Superintendent and designees are ultimately responsible for selecting engagement methods that are appropriate, practical, and responsive to the circumstances of each issue.

Nothing in this policy is intended to limit the Board’s ultimate authority to govern the district, nor to create procedural rights, contractual obligations, or bargaining requirements beyond those otherwise required by law or collective bargaining agreements.
