P1161 Accountability and Equity Committee
There is hereby established an Accountability and Equity Committee. The purpose of the Committee shall be to advise the Office of the Superintendent and District leadership concerning the objectives of Board policies P0400 and P0900 as applied to Wichita Public Schools students, with the goal of helping the district to maximize educational achievement and opportunities for every student.
Administrative Implemental Procedures
- Chair: The Director of the District’s Department of Diversity, Equity and Accountability shall select members of the Committee in consultation with the Superintendent. The Director shall chair Committee meetings, and shall otherwise manage, administer, and direct the work of the Committee.
- Reports: The Committee shall report to the Superintendent, and the Superintendent or the Committee Chair shall periodically report to the Board concerning the work of the Committee. The Committee should ordinarily report to the Board not less than once a year.
- Members: The Committee shall consist of not more than twelve members, who shall be selected by the Committee chair and the Superintendent. Promptly following adoption of this policy, the district shall develop a process by which those who wish to serve on the Committee may apply, and each Board member may submit up to three candidates for consideration. The President of the Board may appoint a member of the Board to sit on the Committee; otherwise, appointments to the Committee shall be merit-based and in approving applications for Committee membership the Superintendent and Committee chair shall eschew selection criteria, such as organization membership or affiliation, that are not directly indicative of a prospective member’s ability to meaningfully contribute to the work and objectives of the Committee. Similarly, Board members who submit candidates for consideration by the Superintendent and the Committee chair shall be mindful of these same considerations.
- Meetings: The Committee shall meet at such dates and times as the Committee chair, after due consultation with the members of the Committee, shall determine. The Committee will focus on constructive discussions, emphasizing proactive idea sharing rather than a platform for venting and complaints. Regular attendance at Committee meetings will be expected and failure to attend shall constitute grounds for removal and appointment of a successor member.
Administrative Responsibility: Superintendent
