P1171 Gifts to Persons

The Wichita Public School system discourages the giving of gifts to school employees by students or the exchange of gifts, at school, by students. Board of Education members and employees shall not accept gifts of money, property, or personal service from individuals, vendors, and/or contractors who do business or seek to do business with Unified School District 259, with the exception of trivial benefits or honorary awards incidental to personal, professional, or business contacts and which involve no substantial risk of undermining the official impartiality of such school employees. It is the responsibility of all administrators to implement this policy and to inform school employees, patrons, students, and those who do business or seek to do business with Unified School District 259 of its provisions.
Administrative Implemental Procedures
- Collection of money by or from students during school hours to purchase gifts for school employees is prohibited.
- The giving of gifts by students or parents to school employees shall be discouraged. However, school employees are free to accept inexpensive gifts from students when they deem it advisable to do so.
- School employees should exercise discretion in displaying any gifts that they may receive.
- Sample or demonstration merchandise accepted by Unified School District 259 shall be retained within the school district for official use only.
