P1220 Eligibility of Students on Special Assignment
Students assigned to a school through the district's centralized choice enrollment and assignment process shall have eligibility to participate in Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) activities determined in accordance with KSHSAA regulations and district policy.
The principal of the receiving school is responsible for determining student eligibility for participation in KSHSAA-sponsored activities, except as otherwise provided by KSHSAA regulations or district policy.
Administrative Implemental Procedures
- All special assignments shall be processed in accordance with Board Policy P5511 and the district's centralized enrollment and assignment procedures.
- Assignment to a school does not automatically establish eligibility for participation in KSHSAA-sponsored activities. Eligibility shall be determined separately in accordance with applicable KSHSAA regulations.
- The receiving principal shall determine a student's eligibility for participation in KSHSAA-sponsored activities, including any limitations or conditions required under KSHSAA rules.
- Students assigned through district administrative action, special education placement, alternative education programs, disciplinary reassignment, or other district-approved assignment processes shall have eligibility determined under the same KSHSAA standards applicable to all students.
- When the KSHSAA regulations require additional district approval or documentation, the receiving principal shall coordinate with the appropriate district administrator to ensure compliance.
- Questions regarding assignment decisions shall be addressed through the district's centralized enrollment and assignment process. Questions regarding activity eligibility shall be addressed in accordance with KSHSAA regulations and district administrative procedures.
