P1358 School Lunch Period Activities
- 1100 Administration
All students attending the Wichita Public Schools are permitted to participate in the district’s school lunch program. The principal shall make assignments of personnel available to ensure an effective level of supervision. Non-licensed personnel may assist with lunchroom and activity supervision; however, licensed employees must assume overall supervisory responsibility.
Section A: Elementary Schools.
Supervised lunchroom and other activities will be provided for elementary students.
Administrative Implemental Procedures
- Students will be given a period of supervised recreation before or after lunch.
- Students may only be checked out for lunch through the attendance office by their parent, legal guardian, or a designee as communicated by parent to office staff.
Section B: Middle and High Schools.
Supervised lunchroom and other activities are provided for students grades 6 through 10, all of whom must remain on campus during lunch period, and for students in grades 11 and 12 who do not opt to leave campus as part of their open lunch privilege.
Administrative Implemental Procedures
- Open lunch is a privilege available only for students in grades 11 and 12 and may be rescinded or modified at any time by the building principal for individuals or groups of students.
- Principals are not authorized to extend open lunch to grades 6 through 10.
- Students in grades 6-10 may only be checked out for lunch through the attendance office by their parent, legal guardian, or a designee as communicated by parent to office staff.
- Principals may modify lunch periods for grades 6 through 12 in special circumstances with the approval of the Superintendent.
