P1365 Student Transition

Efforts shall be made to facilitate a student’s transition from one educational level to another, from one school to another, or from another school system. The principal is charged with the responsibility of developing programs of transition within the school building and to assist in programs designed to help in the student’s transition. School counselors have special responsibility in assisting students to adjust. 

Administrative Implemental Procedures

  1. The practice of staggered attendance for prekindergarten and kindergarten students during the first week of school is left to the discretion of the elementary school principal. 
  2. The coordination of the sixth grade transition is the responsibility of the middle school principal working cooperatively with the elementary school principals. 
  3. The coordination of the ninth grade transition is the responsibility of the high school principal working cooperatively with the middle school principals. 
  4. School personnel involved in transition shall make a special effort to advise students with special needs or interests of programs designed to meet those needs and interests. 
  5. Parents should be included in the transition program as appropriate.
