P4022 Cooperating Teachers

Cooperating teachers serve as supervisors for student teachers in the Wichita Public Schools. 

Administrative Implemental Procedures: 

1. The cooperating teacher should be teaching within their area of licensure. In some instances, administrative and/or supervisory personnel may function in the capacity of a cooperating teacher. 
2. Assignment of cooperating teachers for student teachers is the responsibility of the building principal or appropriate designee. A cooperating teacher’s consent must be obtained before being assigned a student teacher. 
3. Principals should select cooperating teachers with the following qualifications: 
   1. Three or more years of successful teaching experience. 
   2. Some education beyond the Bachelor’s Degree. 
4. The cooperating teacher may receive compensation for working with the student teacher. The college or university determines the cooperating teacher compensation and provides any such compensation to the teacher directly.
