P4022 Cooperating Teachers
Cooperating teachers serve as supervisors for student teachers in the Wichita Public Schools.
Administrative Implemental Procedures:
- The cooperating teacher should be teaching within their area of licensure. In some instances, administrative and/or supervisory personnel may function in the capacity of a cooperating teacher.
- Assignment of cooperating teachers for student teachers is the responsibility of the building principal or appropriate designee. A cooperating teacher’s consent must be obtained before being assigned a student teacher.
- Principals should select cooperating teachers with the following qualifications:
- Three or more years of successful teaching experience.
- Some education beyond the Bachelor’s Degree.
- The cooperating teacher may receive compensation for working with the student teacher. The college or university determines the cooperating teacher compensation and provides any such compensation to the teacher directly.
