Health Services Staff have the primary responsibility for the comprehensive school health program. This includes education towards positive health attitudes and behaviors, a safe and healthy school environment, and provision of direct health care to students. 

Administrative Implemental Procedures: 

  1. A safe, hygienic, and healthy school environment can be a major factor in minimizing incidence and severity of injuries, reducing the spread of infectious disease, and maximizing mental, physical, and social health of students. 
    1. Maintaining the school’s environment is ultimately the responsibility of the principal. 
    2. Input and monitoring by the school nurse is expected. 
  2. School nurses will collaborate with other teaching and support staff in the planning and implementation of health education designed to promote healthy attitudes and behaviors. 
  3. The school nurses will serve as a resource person for health education content, resources, and methods. 
  4. School nurses will counsel students, parents, and staff regarding health, considering confidentiality and privacy. 
  5. Provision of direct health care to individual students will be done in accordance with Board policies, prevailing state regulations, and the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
