- 6250 Instruction
Students in Wichita Public Schools are eligible for accelerated placement in instructional programs appropriate to their academic, social, and personal developmental levels.
Administrative Implemental Procedures:

Students in grades 1-5 are considered for accelerated placement based upon daily performance, group or individual intelligence tests, standardized achievement tests, professional staff recommendation, and parental consent. Students performing well above expected norms may be referred to the Child Study Team. Appropriate action might involve:

Full or part time placement in a Gifted program

Advancement of one grade above the present grade level

Maintenance at the present grade level with enrichment provided within the classroom

students in grades 6-12 are considered for accelerated placement based upon daily performance, group or individual intelligence tests, standardized achievement tests, professional staff recommendation, student desire, and parental consent. Students performing well above expected norms may be referred to the Child Study Team. Appropriate action might involve:

Gifted students may be eligible for placement in a Gifted program.

College Courses. Students may with the approval of the principal enroll in one or more college courses after all other appropriate and available options have been expended. Credit earned from the satisfactory completion of such courses may be applied at the secondary school or college level with the mutual consent of the two schools involved. If a student desires high school credit for university coursework, permission of the secondary school principal is required prior to university enrollment.

Early graduation is an acceleration option open to students who declare this intent and develop a plan with the counselor to ensure the appropriate number of course credits.

Secondary courses offered by the United States Armed Forces Institute

United States Armed Forces Institute subject examination and end-of-the-course tests

Courses in the Marine Corps Institute

Courses in the Coast Guard Institute

One unit (required) of physical education for basic or recruit training

Correspondence course(s) from schools and institutions approved by the State Board of Education

Vocational courses offered by Armed Forces schools.
