P6340 Homework

Homework is a valuable and valued tool in the learning process. Used appropriately, it can provide practice and reinforcement for previous instruction, provide opportunity to develop student responsibility, and involve parents more directly in supporting the learning process. For these reasons, students in all grades shall be given regular and appropriate homework as supported by research. 

Administrative Implemental Procedures:  

  1. In order to coordinate the assignment of regular, appropriate homework, each building shall develop a homework plan which establishes homework procedures, expectations, and guidelines for parental involvement. 

  1. The building homework plan shall be available for review in the main office. 

  1. The building homework plan shall be communicated to parents annually at the beginning of the school year.  

  1. Each student should be taught to employ effective strategies to achieve success in homework.  

  1. Homework should have a well-articulated purpose and outcome and be designed so that students can perform it independently. 

  1. Homework should be structured to ensure high completion rates. School personnel should coordinate to avoid the assignment of excessive homework. 

  1. School personnel should use variety in approaches to homework assignments.
