P6434 General Criteria for Selection and Use of Electronic Media

Electronic media will be selected and assigned to give support directly to instructional learning objectives established by the Department of Learning Services.
Administrative Implemental Procedures:

Library Media Services will establish a volunteer Review Committee, consisting of teachers, librarians, and the Department of Learning Services staff to evaluate and recommend for purchase electronic media identified as correlated with the curriculum.

Materials will be identified and prescribed for specific courses or grades and concepts and themes. Although, this will not preclude other more general uses of those materials, the emphasis will be upon use for specific curriculum areas.

Whenever possible, Library Media Services will purchase electronic media from those companies with which the district has a right-to-copy agreement.

After the adoption of a textbook or guide, supportive instructional materials should be available concurrently for classroom use.

As new or revised instructional materials become available after the period of initial textbook or guide adoption, the Review Committee will recommend purchase for specific instructional learning objectives.

Appropriate curriculum staff will be notified when instructional materials are not being circulated or have been damaged and withdrawn.
