When planning either a new building or a major addition to an existing attendance center, the Board and the administration will consider these guidelines for student capacities:
High Schools: 900 to 1800 students
Middle Schools: 450 to 850 students
Elementary Schools: 400 to 800 students

The following factors will be considered when new buildings or major additions are being planned:

Need for sufficient number of regular classrooms to meet Kansas State Department of Education accreditation requirements

Need for a sufficient number and types of special classrooms and related facilities to meet regulations imposed by the Kansas State Board of Education through the State Plan for Special Education

Status of proposed or current residential development in the area of the school or site

Present or projected density of population in the school area

Size and configuration of school site

Possibility of expansion of existing school site

Existence of hazards and barriers in the general attendance area

Location, condition, capacity, and enrollments of other public school buildings in the area

Board of Education policies concerning transportation of students

Long range planning of Metropolitan Area Planning Commission

Location of nonpublic schools
