Eleven WPS students named National Merit semi-finalists

Eleven WPS students named National Merit semi-finalists

The National Merit Scholarship Program has named 11 WPS students as semifinalists:

  • East High School – Louise Cole, Tri M. Lam, Bo Lu, Nathan Phan and Laura Ward
  • Northeast Magnet High School – Charlotte Bostock, Vincent Duong, Jolyn Jacobs-Garza and William Porcaro
  • Northwest High School – Jack Brown and Nicklaus Njoroge

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Students become National Merit Semifinalists by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year and are the highest-scoring entrants in the state.

Students can become National Merit finalists through a detailed application process and earn high SAT or ACT scores.

National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring.
