Facility Master Plan Community Survey overview
The Board of Education heard an overview of the Facility Master Plan community survey during its December 2, 2024 meeting. The survey was conducted by Creative Entourage in November.
The survey consisted of 300 telephone calls and more than 2,700 online responses. Of the 300 telephone surveys:
• 89.1% agree that we need school buildings that can accommodate up-to-date teaching and learning methods.
• 79.2% agree upgrading school buildings is essential to improving the city.
• 74.70% agree that supporting public schools is the best thing to protect property values.
• 77.6% said they favor the $450 million bond proposal for building improvements that wouldn’t increase the current mill levy tax rate.
Also during the presentation, Luke Newman, Director of Facilities, shared that if the bond issue passes, it would free up current capital funds that could be used to address improvements across the district including HVAC additions in middle school and high school gyms, roofs, flooring, plumbing and other items.
“All schools will benefit greatly from this plan with both the bond and capital dollars,” he said.
“When people ask which schools are going to be impacted with this plan, the answer is ‘all of them’,” said Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld.
