Wichita Public Schools 26-27 enrollment is 43,643 students

The Wichita Public Schools’ official student enrollment for the 26-27 school year is 43,643 students.

“Wichita Public Schools continues to focus on our mission to ensure every student is Future Ready. We are developing our future workforce and future leaders by giving them the tools and opportunities to flourish now and in the future,” said Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld.

WPS saw a decrease of approximately 3% from last year. In 2023, projections indicated a student enrollment decline through the 2033-34 school year.

“This decline is not unexpected. For years, Wichita Public Schools and districts across Kansas and the country have been planning for fewer school-aged children as birth rates continue to decline. While enrollment changes always matter, this year's numbers are largely consistent with broader demographic trends,” Superintendent Bielefeld said.

“Communities change over time and Wichita is no exception.”
