WPS approves putting two-question bond issue on November 3, 2026 ballot

WPS approves putting two-question bond issue on November 3, 2026 ballot

The Wichita Board of Education approved putting a two-question bond issue on the November 3, 2026 ballot during the June 1, 2026 meeting. The bond resolution focuses on long-term investments and improvements including rebuilding, renovating and preserving facilities. This resolution is a combination of facility improvements needed to support teaching and learning, and projects that have a high level of community support.

The bond proposal is divided into two questions and Question 1 must pass for Question 2 to pass.

•    If Question 1 passes, the tax rate would remain the same. A homeowner would not see an increase to what they currently pay.

•    If Question 2 passes, the tax rate would increase with an anticipated impact of an additional $50 a year ($4.16 a month) for the owner of a $200,000 home compared to what is being paid today.

Community and staff feedback guided the decision for a two-question resolution. Our survey data shows 77% of respondents support a bond if it means no change from what they're currently paying in property tax, and 59% of respondents support a bond if it means an annual investment of $50 or less.
