WPS graduation rate up 5.1%
Wichita Public Schools’ graduation rate for the Class of 2024 is 84.3%, up 10.3 percentage points from 2018. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Loren Hatfield shared the news about the increase, along with increases in district subgroups, at the November 4 Board of Education meeting.
“We had a 5.1% increase in one year. That’s about 178 more students who graduated than last year. It is the largest jump we have taken in one year and the highest graduation rate Wichita Public Schools has ever had,” Dr. Hatfield said.
Of the 36 subgroup categories, 25 of them achieved their highest graduation rate with the Class of 2024 (*). The graduation rate is also up at every Wichita Public Schools high school.

Dr. Hatfield said unique programs, along with school staff who worked with students who were a couple credits short to finish their coursework, helped with increasing the graduation rates.
“We can achieve our goals if we are strategic and put our resources where they most impact students,” said Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld.
In our Every Student Future Ready Strategic Plan, one of our three student success outcomes is increasing the high school graduation rate from 79.2% to 85% by 2029.
