WPS schools receive national recognition

WPS schools receive national recognition

Three WPS magnet schools have won national recognition from the Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.

Earhart Environmental Magnet Elementary School, Riverside Leadership Magnet Elementary School, and Mayberry Middle School were named National Magnet Schools of Distinction.

This will be the fifth award for Earhart, the third award for Mayberry, and the first award for Riverside.

“We’re thrilled to have three of our magnet schools recognized nationally,” said Dr. Michelle Drumright, Executive Director of Choice Programs and Enrollment for Wichita Public Schools.

They will be recognized and receive a Magnet School of Distinction Award on behalf of the school during an awards ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s National Conference April 14-17, 2026, in San Diego.

To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.
