Music At Dodge Literacy Magnet
At Dodge Literacy Magnet each student in grades K-5 receives general music instructions twice a week for 45 minutes. All grade levels strive to meet the National Music Standards for Music Education. All students use their voices, their bodies, and various rhythm instruments to develop musically! Students begin playing recorders in fifth grade to further enhance beginning note reading and ear training. Students learn music fundamentals in a supportive and nurturing environment. Many of the lessons in music coordinate with ongoing study in the students' classrooms. Music is a wonderfully effective means to explore multicultural traditions, world history, and languages from around the globe. With vocal music activities such as the Winter Sing-a-long, the Talent Show and at least one concert opportunity per year, students can experience the joy of performing their music for appreciative audiences from throughout the community.
Fourth and Fifth grade students can sign up to be in Honor Choir. This choir meets during lunch recess once a week for 20 minutes. Honor Choir students perform at music concerts, go out on tour, and participate in the Honor Choir Elementary Music Festival. Students in fourth grade can also choose to sign up for guitar club. This club meets for 20 minutes during lunch recess. Students in the fifth grade can choose to continue their learning in guitar club and meet during recess as well.
