Juniors,
I am very excited to send you all this email. This year, the district will be putting on our first-annual USD259 College & Career Boot Camp and Fair, May 31st – June 3rd. This is a four-day fun and intensive training event that will prepare our Juniors for Senior year and their next steps after graduation. Each day will be from approximately 7:30 AM to 3:10 PM daily. Participation is expected for all 4 days.
Day 1 will focus on helping you with your soft skills: email & phone etiquette, building your resume, job shadowing & internships, nailing the interview, and dressing for success.
Day 2 will focus on military options and their college scholarship programs, including a real military boot camp obstacle course with drill sergeants. In the afternoon, we will introduce you Juniors on how to find and apply to scholarships, finding a major, and hearing from former seniors on what they did to prepare for their senior year and after graduation.
Day 3 focuses on understanding your college pathway: researching colleges, creating a Top 10 list, mastering the application (Common App), requesting a transcript, the importance of visiting your colleges, and making it all happen (timeline).
Day 4 is heavily focused on meeting with colleges, military, and career opportunities. The morning, students will sign up and meet up with 5 of 42 community partners, for 25 minutes each, learning about their opportunities. After lunch, there will be a district-wide College & Career Fair for our 9th – 12th graders and parents!!
ü YOU MUST COMMIT TO ALL 4 DAYS – Tuesday, May 31st through Friday, June 3rd, 7:30 AM until 3:10 PM.
