Flyer Distribution

We will begin processing flyer distribution requests the week of August 24 for the 2026-2027 school year.

Thank you for your interest in flyer distribution to WPS students and their families. To obtain permission to distribute flyers or similar requests within our schools, all requests must be reviewed and approved through the Strategic Communications Division. Flyers being distributed to only one school can be approved by the school's principal directly (all content must be unique and relevant to only that school).

Please review our flyer distribution guidelines in the tabs below for more information. Submitted requests with required documentation will be reviewed weekly - typically on Fridays. Documents received fewer than 10 business days prior to an event or deadline will not be approved for distribution.

Flyer Distribution Overview

Flyer Distribution to Students & Parents: Procedures & Guidelines

Pursuant to BOE Policy P6100, WPS permits community groups to distribute materials to students and parents that are consistent with the district’s educational mission.
To obtain permission to distribute flyers or similar requests within WPS, all requests must comply with the guidelines listed herein and will be reviewed and approved by the Strategic Communications Division.

When we are accepting requests, submitted requests with required documentation will be reviewed weekly - typically on Friday.

Guidelines for Flyers

Individuals, companies, or organizations who desire to distribute materials of an educational nature through WPS must first receive approval of the materials for distribution, per BOE Policy P6100.
Suitable materials of an informational nature will not be denied distribution simply because the sponsor is religious in nature.
Approval of any additional flyers or distribution requests throughout the school year is required.
Approval of distribution requests will be on a yearly basis beginning with the start of a new school year and all requests must be resubmitted.
Approval for distribution does not guarantee distribution within a particular building. Approval by Strategic Communications indicates that the content of the material is suitable for distribution, but distribution remains subject to the distribution practices within any particular building (i.e., not all buildings permit distribution of flyers and individual buildings may have other non-content based procedures regarding distribution).

Flyers and other requests that companies/organizations wish to distribute must meet the following guidelines:

Must be educational in nature or complimentary or supportive of the overall educational development of students
Must be informational and non-proselytizing in nature
No corporate promotion or for-profit advertising
No promotion for dances, parties, etc.
No posting by companies/organizations that have policies or promote activities that are inconsistent with the mission and/or policies of WPS.
No political materials, endorsements, walk-outs, demonstration notices, etc.

Required Materials for Submission

The following materials must be submitted a minimum of TWO WEEKS prior to the desired distribution date via email, U.S. mail, or drop off for consideration of distribution.

Sample of flyer or material intended for distribution (including the required disclaimer statement).
Complete contact information including:
- First and last name
- Company/organization name
- Address with ZIP Code
- Contact phone number
- Fax number, if applicable
Desired distribution date

The following disclaimer is required on ALL flyers distributed in the Wichita Public Schools.

NOTICE From Wichita Public Schools: USD 259 permits the distribution of flyers by various organizations on a nondiscriminatory basis regarding matters of potential interest to students and parents. USD 259 neither sponsors nor endorses any organization or activity represented in such flyers and any particular activity, content, or viewpoint set forth in any flyer is solely that of the organization shown.

Any materials translated to Spanish should include the Spanish-language disclaimer.
AVISO: El distrito escolar USD 259 permite la distribución de volantes por parte de varias organizaciones de forma no discriminatoria con respecto a asuntos de posible interés para estudiantes y padres. Distribution Instructions (Once Approved)

If the flyer or request is approved, an approval letter along with a list of schools will be provided via email that reflects student enrollment numbers at each school site.
It will be the responsibility of the individual to get the information to the school(s) of their choice. To facilitate distribution at individual sites, the flyer request should be bundled in packages of twenty-five (25).
Information will NOT be distributed via email, and the District is unable to make copies of printed materials, copies will be the responsibility of those wishing to distribute materials.

Wichita Public Schools invites community members, parents and alumni to stay engaged and informed through its new monthly newsletter, the WPS Progress Report. The newsletter highlights both district-level information and the powerful learning happening in our schools.

Partnerships

Partnerships are mutually beneficial relationships between schools and the community that support students’ achievement. Partners help enrich the lives of students.

Partnerships are often instrumental in helping young people develop more positive attitudes towards school and academic achievement. Partnerships play a critical role in enhancing the learning environment for students by helping to ensure they receive the best education possible.

Positive relationships between businesses and schools are also a great way to help strengthen the connection between education, the workforce and the community.

Volunteers & Mentors

Volunteers

We welcome volunteers and mentors into our schools from August through May each year. Volunteer opportunities include helping school office staff, reading with students, mentoring, helping with lunch or recess, field trip chaperones and much more.

All individuals volunteering in a WPS school, including parents, are required to register as a volunteer every school year. This registration allows us to conduct a background check on all volunteers to ensure the safety of our students, staff and visitors. It also provides us the information needed to contact volunteers in the event of schedule changes or building closures.

Mentors

Mentors serve as experienced and trusted advisors who intend to work with a student or group of students for an extended period of time as an academic and/or social-emotional support for the students' educational journey.

If you are an individual interested in mentoring or a group/organization whose members are interested in mentoring and you have not yet made a connection with a school, please contact the office of Partnerships and Belonging at 316-973-4413 to begin that process.
