Allison Middle School
Allison Traditional Magnet Middle School, built in 1920, spans 124,592 square feet. Additions in 1928 and 1930 added classrooms, a cafeteria, and a kitchen. In 1950, a gym, band room, and more classrooms were included. A 2000 bond issue funded renovations, a new east facade with offices, science labs, a library, and a west addition with restrooms and an auditorium, along with air conditioning. In 2008, a FEMA shelter with music classrooms was added.

Allison Middle School has significant opportunities for energy and operational savings. The graph above shows the utility cost over the last three years and a projected future utility expenditure if energy conservation measures, as identified by Navitas' preliminary site audits, are implemented. Currently, this building spends approximately $130,000 annually (Baseline) on electricity and gas, with a baseline energy usage index (EUI) of 62. A middle school with similar systems and operations can have variable energy usage when efficiency measures are upgraded, depending on the occupancy load. The energy usage index can range between 35 and 45 EUI. The projected numbers are based on conservative efforts and reflect the district reducing the energy usage index to 45, which would result in total utility dollar savings of $743,000 in energy costs over 15 years. This does not include additional operational dollar savings that would be achieved by implementing newer, more efficient systems.
