East High School
Wichita East High School is the oldest high school in Wichita and has the highest student enrollment of any high school in the state. The original Wichita High School building was completed in 1923. It became Wichita High School East in 1929 when Wichita North was built. Wichita East High School shared a site with Roosevelt Junior High School. Additionally, there were multiple vocational buildings built to the south on
the site. In 1976-77, a library and cafeteria were built between East and Roosevelt,
connecting the buildings. In 1990, Roosevelt became part of East High School. The 2000 bond issue relaced boilers throughout the building and added air conditioning. The 2000 bond issue also converted the old gym to a science wing and added a new large gymnasium. A 2008 school bond added a secondary gym that is also a FEMA
shelter, a natatorium, and a performing arts center. The original Roosevelt and East buildings are three stories, while the remainder of the spaces are one or two stories. East High School encompasses 403,814 square feet.

East High School has significant opportunities for energy and operational savings. The graph above shows the baseline utility cost and projected future utility expenditure if energy conservation measures, as identified by Navitas' preliminary site audits, are
implemented. Currently, this building spends approximately $385,697 annually (Baseline) on electricity and gas, with a baseline energy usage index (EUI) of 58. A building with similar systems and operations can have variable energy usage when efficiency measures are upgraded, depending on the occupancy load. The energy usage index can range between 40–55 EUI. The projected numbers are based on conservative efforts and reflect the district reducing the energy usage index to 55, which would result in total utility dollar savings of approximately $586,000 in energy costs over 15 years. This does not include additional operational dollar savings that would be achieved by implementing newer, more efficient systems.
