Griffith Elementary

Griffith Elementary was originally built in 1958 with about 21,700 square feet, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, a multipurpose room, and a library. This original section forms the “A” and “B” halls. In 2001, a 27,600 square foot addition created the “C,” “D,” and “E” halls, adding classrooms, a library, multipurpose room,
restrooms, and a kitchen. That project also included mechanical upgrades such as new unit ventilators, fan coil units, and a new boiler plant with an air-cooled chiller. In 2011, a 13,700 square foot addition was built on the east side for the “F” hall, including classrooms, a cafeteria, and restrooms. Griffith Elementary now totals approximately 65,309 square feet.

Griffith Elementary Energy Savings Graph

Griffith Elementary has significant opportunities for energy and operational savings. The graph above shows the baseline utility cost and projected future utility expenditure if energy conservation measures, as identified by Navitas' preliminary site
audits, are implemented. Currently, this building spends approximately $61,256 annually (Baseline) on electricity and gas, with a baseline energy usage index (EUI) of 45. A building with similar systems and operations can have variable energy usage
when efficiency measures are upgraded, depending on the occupancy load. The energy usage index can range between 35–45 EUI. The projected numbers are based on conservative efforts and reflect the district reducing the energy usage index to 35,
which would result in total utility dollar savings of approximately $287,000 in energy costs over 15 years. This does not include additional operational dollar savings that would be achieved by implementing newer, more efficient systems.
