Spaght Elementary
Spaght Elementary has gone through several name changes and building alterations since its original construction at 10 and Grove in 1927. After opening, the population around the new school grew rapidly resulting in four rooms being added to the structure in 1930 and an additional six rooms added in 1952. In 1962 fourteen classrooms, a multipurpose room, and a library were added. The original building was demolished and replaced with a new building north of the original campus. Samuel E. Spaght’s current campus at 2316 E. 10 Street was built in 2011 as a part of the district’s 2008 bond. The school has undergone some minor updates to some mechanical equipment, including water heaters and hot water recirculation pumps, but no other major equipment upgrades since being constructed.

Spaght Science Communication Magnet has significant opportunities for energy and operational savings. The graph above shows the baseline utility cost and projected future utility expenditure if energy conservation measures, as identified by Navitas' preliminary site audits, are implemented. Currently, this building spends approximately $80,217 annually (Baseline) on electricity and gas, with a baseline energy usage index (EUI) of 39.2. A building with similar systems and operations can have variable energy usage when efficiency measures are upgraded, depending on the occupancy load. The energy usage index can range between 30–40 EUI. The projected numbers are based on conservative
efforts and reflect the district reducing the energy usage index to 30, which would result in total utility dollar savings of approximately $361,000 in energy costs over 15 years. This does not include additional operational dollar savings that would be achieved by implementing newer, more efficient systems.
