Stucky Middle School
Stucky Middle School was constructed in 2003 and was part of the 2000 bond
issue, becoming the first new middle school built in Wichita since the 1960s. The school was initially built to hold 600 students along with two new gymnasiums. The 2006 expansions added 13 classrooms so each grade level could have its own “pod” with new VAV boxes connecting into the existing AHUs. This renovation also added a new special education wing where 4 blower coils were added to serve the space. In 2008, in another bond issue, the school got a new science wing which added 4 more
science classrooms, An independent boiler plant was also installed in 2011. Today Stucky holds 630 students and a staff of around 50.

Stucky Middle has significant opportunities for energy and operational savings. The graph above shows the baseline utility cost and projected future utility expenditure if energy conservation measures, as identified by Navitas' preliminary site audits, are
implemented. Currently, this building spends approximately $129,845 annually (Baseline) on electricity and gas, with a baseline energy usage index (EUI) of 40.1. A building with similar systems and operations can have variable energy usage when efficiency measures are upgraded, depending on the occupancy load. The energy usage index can range between 30–40 EUI. The projected numbers are based on conservative efforts and reflect the district reducing the energy usage index to 35, which would result in total utility dollar savings of approximately $315,000 in energy costs over 15 years. This does not include additional operational dollar savings that would be achieved by implementing newer, more efficient systems.
