We take student safety seriously. Wichita Public Schools uses filters, monitoring tools, and digital citizenship lessons to keep students safe online.

What We Do:

• Filtered Internet Access: Our Securly filter blocks harmful content and restricts YouTube to protect students.
• Safe Search: Google SafeSearch is enabled to filter unwanted results.
• Flagged Content: Certain words in searches and Teams are monitored for safety.
• Image Protection: Searches are limited to Creative Commons images.
• Digital Citizenship: Students learn age-appropriate lessons on topics like cyberbullying, privacy, and media literacy through Common Sense Media.

WiFi Access:

• District Devices: Filtered WiFi is installed for safety.
• Personal Devices: Install the security certificate at securly.com/ssl.
• Guest WiFi: Available for visitors through school approval, please work with your school if needed.

Battery Care
Charge your device fully each night. Avoid letting the battery run too low and keep it away from extreme temperatures.

Screen Care
Clean the screen with a soft, dry cloth. Never place heavy items on the device or lift it by the screen.

Stay Updated
Install updates from the district and your device’s operating system when prompted. You can also check for updates in your device settings.

Storing Your Device
Put the device to sleep or shut it down after use. Carry it carefully and store it in a safe place. Never leave it in a car to avoid theft and heat damage.

School Work & Data
Save files to the cloud using OneDrive or iCloud. This ensures your work is backed up and accessible from any device.

Wichita Public Schools is leading the way in competitive and casual gaming with a dynamic Esports program. Across 9 high schools, 16 middle schools, and 4 alternative schools, students are engaged in this fast-growing field.

Each high school proudly fields a team that competes regionally and nationally, while gaming concepts classes are integrated into the school day at most middle and high schools. At the heart of the program is our state-of-the-art Esports arena with 70 gaming stations, where the excitement of competition comes to life!

Wichita Public Schools is proud to be part of Verizon Innovative Learning Cohort, a national program that expands digital access and creates new learning opportunities for students. In short, Verizon Innovative Learning empowers students and educators nationwide to build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in tomorrow’s world.

Through this initiative, 10 of our middle schools received a comprehensive technology package that includes:

• An iPad for every student and teacher
• Up to four years of data service on each device
• Access to technology-rich curriculum for personalized learning
• Professional development for teachers
• A full-time technology coach in each school to support classroom integration

Participating schools include Brooks Center for STEM and Arts Magnet, Coleman, Curtis, Hamilton, Marshall, Mayberry, Mead, Pleasant Valley, Robinson, and Truesdell.

Since 2014, Verizon—partnering with Digital Promise—has launched this program in more than 150 schools nationwide, and our schools are among 100 new additions this year. The goal is to increase engagement, improve achievement, and prepare students for future careers by introducing emerging technologies like AR/VR, AI, and 3D design.

Wichita Public Schools is proud to be recognized as an ISTE/ASCD Distinguished District. The ISTE Distinguished District Award recognizes school systems that are transforming education through their commitment to improve teaching and learning.

An Edventure is an exciting virtual learning experience that brings real-world professionals, places, and ideas right into the classroom—without leaving school. These interactive sessions include virtual field trips and guest speakers, giving students the chance to meet experts, ask questions, and explore new topics in a fun and engaging way.

From zookeepers and scientists to environmentalists and innovators, Edventures help students dive deeper into learning and connect classroom lessons to the real world.

This immersive event gives educators hands-on experiences with cutting-edge tools like Canva, Canvas, Adobe, and AI. Participants dive into interactive sessions, collaborate in workshops, and gain inspiration from high-impact keynote speakers—all designed to bring innovative practices back to the classroom.
