Family and Community Engagement

Together Students Thrive!

Children thriving as they play on a playground

Parental involvement has a significant impact on a child’s education, adding as much as 2-3 years to a student’s learning.

Research accumulated over more than three decades irrefutably demonstrates that children whose families are involved in their child’s education tend to have higher test scores, better grades, a higher rate of high school completion and a more positive school experience)

Family and community engagement in schools is a shared responsibility:

1) Schools and other community stakeholders are committed to reaching out to engage families in meaningful ways, and

2) Families are committed to actively supporting their children’s learning and development.

Meaningful engagement spans multiple settings, and reinforces learning wherever children learn – at home, in childcare, in school, in after school programs, in churches, and in the community. Engaging parents, families and caregivers in learning experiences is essential to maximize the academic progress of WPS students.

The Wichita Public Schools' Family and Community Engagement team is committed to supporting schools, community and families in creating and maintaining meaningful relationships that help our students thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

6 Keys to Success

Parents and caregivers are a student's first teacher, and remain the most significant influence on learning throughout a student's education. Here are 6 Keys to Success for families to help students thrive!

Parent and Community Support

Our team is here to assist families and the community with questions, concerns or needs that individuals experience related to a student's education.  In the event a concern can't be resolved at the school level, families can reach out to us for additional guidance and support.
