College Readiness

In Wichita Public School students have the opportunity to become College and Career Ready through a variety of programs and supports. Several post-secondary institutions in the area offer students a way to challenge themselves and get a jump on their post-secondary plans by earning both high school and college credit through an extensive range of concurrent and dual credit.

Future Ready Success Coaches support students in grades 9 - 12 by offering the following supports:

  • Helping students develop plans for post high school
  • Collecting and distributing materials related to the college and career search process
  • Helping connect students with local business partners for internship and job shadowing experiences
  • Helping students with information regarding financial aid and scholarships

You can find more information about each high school's College and Career Center on the school websites, under the Activities heading.

What is concurrent credit?

Students can earn concurrent credit through local post-secondary institutions, meaning they receive both high school and college credit for a class they attend at their high school, taught by WPS instructors. The courses available at each high school vary depending on the teachers on staff and their areas of expertise.
