Early College Academy, in partnership with Friends University, will allow students to take start taking classes for college credit the summer before their sophomore year. When students in the program graduate high school, they will have enough college credits for the equivalent of an associate degree and can start college as a third-year student.
Incoming freshman for the fall of 2019 throughout the Wichita Public Schools who are interested in the rigorous program can submit an application. The first freshman class will consist of 50 students.
The Early College Academy will start classes at 7 a.m. and end at 2:10 p.m., with an option of taking an extra class at the end of the day. Students who are accepted into the program, regardless of their neighborhood high school, will become Northwest High School students and will be able to compete in extra curricular activities as Northwest Grizzlies.
