International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

  • Good evening parents,

I wanted to offer clarity on the district’s recent phase and how it affects our PIB and IB students. The packets that are being distributed at middle schools and high schools are for continued learning. They do not count for a grade, nor are they geared towards PIB and IB students. Your child can work on those packets, however, their PIB and IB teachers will or have begun the process of communicating with their students via email, phone calls, Google classrooms, and Synergy with classwork that can be completed virtually. In the next 24 hours, I will be sending out additional information that pertains to CAS, Extended Essay, and Internal Assessments.

I receive the updated rules and mandates from the IBO at the same time you do. I then have to meet with the EHS IB team to determine the impact on our students. A couple of days usually passes between the time information is posted and I have an opportunity to speak with my team. I say this, because we have received numerous emails, voicemails, and phone calls that carry a distraught tone that lacks empathy. As a parent, I understand your frustration, and as an educator, please know that we are working diligently to ensure that your IB students are meeting the new IBO mandates and that your PIB students have the opportunity to continue their rigorous coursework.

Our new reality will take patience and grace, empathy, and where applicable, humor. Thank you for entrusting me with your student, and know that we are working hard to ensure that you receive the most accurate and up to date information regarding your students’ academic success.

    EHS IB Family,

The International Baccalaureate Organization has announced that the May examinations for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme will NOT be held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following response is from the IBO,

    1. As an organization, it is critical for the IB to ensure that the options it provides its global community of IB World Schools are based on compassion and fairness for the difficult circumstances that its students and educators are experiencing. As a result, based on considerable advice from stakeholders across the globe, including schools, students, universities and official bodies, the IB has determined what it believes to be the most responsible and ethical way forward.
    2. The May 2020 examinations as scheduled between 30 April and 22 May for Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme candidates will no longer be held.
    3. Depending on what they registered for, the student will be awarded a Diploma or a Course Certificate which reflects their standard of work. This is based on student's coursework and the established assessment expertise, rigor and quality control already built into the programmes.

We know that our families have millions of questions, and as of now, I do not know specifics for how we will handle this at EHS. The IB will share full details and FAQs with us and on their website by March 27, 2020. Mrs. Richardson and I will continue to keep you updated with specific information.
