Senior Spotlight - Jayda Purdie, Northeast Magnet High School
Northeast Magnet senior Jayda Purdie took advantage of a lot of what high school had to offer, and she said that being visually impaired was not going to stop her.
“I’m the only one in my family with a disability, but that isn’t a big deal. I like the freedom that high school gives you, and I like being in charge of myself and what I get done,” she said.
Jayda has always been involved in choir, Northeast’s Madrigals, and clubs. Her junior year she started participating in the school’s musical productions.
“Last year we did Bonnie and Clyde and we went to the Kansas State Thespian Conference and we got to perform in front of students from all over Kansas and that was a lot of fun.”
Jayda is in Northeast’s biomed program, which supported her dream of going into nursing. This fall, she will go to Wichita State University in their pre-nursing program. Her goal is to be a pediatric nurse or work in the neonatal intensive care unit.
“I’m excited to start a new chapter in my life, but I will miss the people at Northeast,” Jayda said. “They are what made my high school experience memorable for me, even during the quarantine.”
