Senior Spotlight — Elijah Vaughters, Education Imagine Academy
Senior Spotlight — Elijah Vaughters
Elijah Vaughters has always been a hard worker.
He attended South High School for the past three years, doing well in advanced classes and participating in football and wrestling early on in addition to playing the cello in the school orchestra and participating in the Young Life program.
When the pandemic hit, he decided to finish his high school education online and enrolled in the Education Imagine Academy, the district’s virtual school.
The flexibility of virtual school enabled Elijah to finish his high school courses a semester early. He now works full time installing flooring for a construction company.
“Elijah made an impression on us in the way he engaged with his teachers and participated in class,” said Briana Renich, Education Imagine Academy’s guidance counselor. “His infectious enthusiasm would inspire teachers and students alike. He's clearly curious and a natural leader. We were only blessed to work with him for one semester and he deserves to be recognized.”
Last November, Elijah joined the Army National Guard after participating in JROTC his junior year.
In the coming months, he will go to 10 weeks of basic training and then get Advanced Individual Training to become a heavy vehicle operator.
Once he finishes his training, he plans to go to Wichita State where he is interested in pursuing a degree in mechanical or structural engineering.
