TJ Neal: South High football player looks forwardto competing in college
TJ Neal is a senior at South High School and has signed to play football for Washburn University. He hopes to play professional football. If that doesn’t work out, he’d like to become a forensic science detective or coroner.
He has played basketball and football all four years and participated in tennis his junior and senior years. He has played quarterback, defensive back and safety for the school’s football team. He plans to participate in track this season.
His junior year he received an honorable mention in the city league as a quarterback and this year he was named to the city league second team as a safety and received an honorable mention as a quarterback. He also received an all-state honorable mention as a safety. He was a captain on the basketball and football teams.
“Football was my first love, so that’s what I decided to focus on,” said Neal.
Russ Wells, the football coach for South High, said he’ll remember TJ for his hard work.
“TJ is one of the hardest working athletes I have coached in my 25 years on the sidelines,” said Wells. “I am excited for his future because his drive will allow him to be successful athletically as well as wherever his career path takes him.
“I will definitely miss the coaches and the brotherhood we formed with the players,” said Neal. “It was great that all the fans were your friends. There’s a great environment here.”
