January is School Board Appreciation Month, a time to thank our board members for their support of public education.
Did you know?
The Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Six of the board members must live in six specific geographic districts, while the seventh can live anywhere in the district at large. Primary elections for district seats are held by district, but general elections are held district-wide for all seats. They are volunteer (non-paid) positions. The Board of Education is the governing, policy-making body that sets the vision, mission and goals of the district. BOE members make decisions on matters relating to public education and also hire the superintendent of schools.
Our BOE members are visible throughout the district, visiting schools, advocating on behalf of public education, and representing the district throughout the community.
You can see the agendas and minutes for Board of Education meetings on the district’s website at www.usd259.org/BOE
