Superintendent’s Challenge recognizes winter sports excellence

Superintendent's Challenge winners for winter 2019 At the Feb. 10 Board of Education Meeting, middle and high school student athletes and cheer and dance teams were recognized for winter sports academic excellence by the Superintendent’s Challenge.

Teams that earned First Place:

  • Dance – Heights High School
  • Cheer – Heights High School
  • Bowling – Southeast High School
  • Boys Swimming – East High School
  • Wrestling – South High School
  • Girls Basketball – Northwest
  • Boys Basketball – Heights High School

Teams were also recognized for most improved GPA: 

  • Dance – West High School
  • Cheer – West High School
  • Bowling – East High School
  • Boys Swimming – South High School
  • Wrestling – South High School
  • Girls Basketball – East High School
  • Boys Basketball – West High School

Middle school athletes were also recognized with the Robinson Middle School boys and girls basketball teams winning the top award.

Launched in 2017, the Superintendent’s Challenge is an incentive program for students involved in athletics, cheer and dance. The initiative has athletic teams not only compete on the field, but in the classroom as well.

Twenty sports and activities are part of the program. Schools’ teams compete for the highest grade point average. The team with the highest GPA for each sport will receive the award at the end of the season. The Overall GPA Cup will be awarded to the team with the highest GPA of all sports at the end of the school year.
