Thirteen schools receive Challenge Awards

Woodland reading Thirteen schools received Challenge Awards from the Kansas Department of Education. The awards recognize Kansas schools that are making a notable difference on the state assessments despite facing significant challenges in their school population.

The schools honored are:

Caldwell Elementary – 3rd grade math

Cloud Elementary – 4th grade reading

Dodge Literacy Magnet – 3rd grade math

Irving Elementary – 4th grade reading

Jackson Elementary – 5th grade reading

Payne Elementary – 5th grade math

Woodland Health and Wellness Magnet – 3rd grade reading

Horace Mann Dual Language Magnet – 6th and 7th grade math; 6th and 7th grade reading

Jardine Technology Magnet – 8th grade math

Mayberry Cultural and Fine Arts Magnet – 7th and 8th grade reading

Pleasant Valley Middle School – 8th grade reading

East High School – 10th grade math

South High School – 10th grade reading

The schools will be recognized during the May 8 Board of Education meeting.
